My broken road

In the car this evening, the radio played the song by the Rascal Flatts "Broken Road." Call me stressed. Call me hormonal. Call me crazy, but I burst into tears. Every "you" in the song should be capitalized to signify that "You" is God. I know the song is meant to be a love song, and it is for me too... but a love song about my relationship with God. I wandered lost for so long, looking for love. My travels were mostly bumpy and broken, but always redirecting me to a place I wasn't yet comfortable going... until now. "But I got lost a time or two, wiped my brow and kept pushing through. I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to You..."

My heart absolutely aches for the lost time and all the sadness and fear I felt when I knew He was there, but couldn't see Him because of my own blindness. But I finally found Him and although my relationship with Him isn't perfect; He is. And, in that, I know we will be ok.

Broken Road
I set out on a narrow way, many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true

That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
Yes He did

I think about the years I spent, just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost, and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there, you understand
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true

That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

But now I'm just rolling home into my lover's arms
This much I know is true

That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
