Waiting, peering through the coffee shop window
soft lazy snow falling on a slushy sidewalk.
Listen to coffee beans as they turn from sound to smell.
Watch the world stomp by as a sneaky breeze
swirls sparkly pearl dust into concrete cracks.
Streetlights umbrella passersby in fuzzy yellow orbs,
creating glowing, grinning plates of expression.
The scarred wooden table, weary with wear
props pristine books and a cup of chai tea
in this little snow globe world.
Laughter swirls around, fading in and out
like someone twisting the dial of sound
up and down as a child does to the radio.
The window and its contents, too
fade in and out with the flow of voices.
In this little snow globe
there are no sharp edges;
nothing to slice through the
cashmere of my mind.
